Starts of with town's folk burning a witch...in 1800's U.S. town! Never, EVER happened. Witch burning was European. They hanged them in the U.S. and a lot earlier than 1815.
Suffice to say most of the roles are telephoned in, the witch when it appears as it would is a growling, ugly monster, which a town girl, cured of deafness mistakes for the Virgin Mary. Journalist latches onto the story and gets his old job back at his old paper. But then it all goes to Hell. Well, at least the witch is evil. Girl convinces all the towns people (after creating miracles facilitated by the witch) to come and worship. Priest who was cured of lung ailment doubts the cure's origin and then is killed by the witch, who made it look like suicide. The woman they have playing the journalist's accomplice looks like she'd rather be anywhere else. Witch attacks journalist when he tries to warn the diocese but a priest manages to banish the witch. Meanwhile, everyone is going to meet at the service, including the bishop who won't hear of cancelling the service. Turns out, the girl, Alice, is a descendant of the witch who is working through her. Witch BBQs the monsignor who wanted to help the journalist. At the sermon, the girl tries to get all the people to pledge their souls to Mary. Journalist breaks in, tells everyone he faked the whole story, he's taking the power from the witch.
But, the place catches fire, the people all run away and the witch shows up, fries the bishop, and then the witch dies after touching the girl. Morgan gives a speech to God about letting the girl live. OF course she comes back.
