There's a website called NightCafe Studio that uses AI to draw pictures
based on text prompts that you type in. I've been playing around with it,
including trying some DW episode titles to see what it makes of them.

Naturally I started at the beginning with An Unearthly Child:

The pictures the AI was trained with must've included a screenshot
of the opening episode title, since the end result was in black and
whit and featured a rectangular object obviously inspired by the
TARDIS. I'm not sure why there's a levitating rubber pillow in I.M.
Foreman's junkyard though!

Inspired by this, I tried An Unearthly Child again but changed the
settings to make the picture less artistic and more coherent. It had
the opposite effect. This unearthly child was a blue man in a blue
world (da-ba-de, da-ba-di) wearing the fourth Doctor's scarf and coat.

Interesting. The visual equivalent of AI storytelling - you recognise the
elements but somehow they don’t quite form anything coherent. The first one
almost does though.

The Cave of Skulls.

The first version of the picture had many of the skulls painted
in pretty pastel colours. The Tribe of Gum are obviously into
interior decoration in a big way.

The Firemaker.

This firemaker is a mediaeval craftsman, like a blacksmith
or wheelwright, working in his forge. I love this picture
even though it has nothing to do with the episode.

fire. A cross between a lamp and a cigarette lighter. (I bet

The artistic Escape is the best so far, but I disagree with you on the
coherent one being unfinished: the observer is part of the piece.

You are in a stark, snowy forest. An inter-dimensional gateway has opened
up before you but blocking your escape is an aerial Lovecraftian horror,
formless shadowy tentacles reaching out for you. Your escape seems
hopeless. The limited palate echoes the bleakness of your chances …

There are other unlimited, completely free text-to-picture
websites but they’re not as good. (e.g. one website nearly
always does pictures of deformed animals, no matter what

Yeah, very observant. I did make them three weeks ago.

I was just doing it for my own satisfaction and curiosity
before deciding to share them here. (And with the “five
pictures a day unless you pay for more” limit, it’s good
to have a stockpile behind me! Anything that saves a bit
of money is welcome these days!)

There's some confusion over the title of the next episode.
The "Next time:" caption and the opening title caption say
different things. Being a completist, I've done both. Look on

* The Cave of Five Hundred Eyes

Very similar to the "Cave of Skulls" picture, we have a
pastel-coloured cave decorated with round objects. The
program clearly has a set formula for these types of
pictures. Or maybe the Hashashin were descendants
of the Tribe of Gum and inherited their ancestors'
decorating habits?

being sacrificed. Her throat had been slashed and blood
was pouring out. Then it changed its mind, rejected the
idea, and turned the wound into a gold choker instead.

At this point, the website changed its interface, so today's pictures
are in a slightly different style as we begin The Sensorites. I did
eventually figure out how to reproduce all the old settings in the new
interface, but I never went back and redid these pictures properly.
