Checking abebooks the price is not quite so high but the cheapest
paper copy I see is 15.21 and shipping (the audiobook is cheaper).

Is this a step closer to what economists call perfect information? Used to be, a store would only know an old book was in demand when a customer had purchased the last one off the clearance rack and two others came in to ask about it the same day. Now, anyone can see a seller elsewhere has priced the books at $31, with three remaining, and figuring the two in stock locally should also be worth a total of $93, price them at $46.50 each.

At a physical store, and taking potluck, my receipt says I paid $7.99 for the second SFBC volume of The Chronicles of the Lensmen, and $3 for a paperback, presumably at that price point they are considered fungible, but I'm using it as a bookmark in _Legion_ by Charles L. Grant; that book was $1.75 back in 1979, so, despite this being the only printing, the price increase has not kept up with inflation. (Leaving aside the fact that a buck and three-quarters was more dear to me back then than the equivalent today, and the question of whether one can today even find a book of only 224 pages.)
