Any recommendable versions from the past 40 years? The two complete versions I have are basically 70 years old.

I have the complete Op. 10 by Tjeknavorian on ASV. It includes suites
from Khachaturian ballets also - it is very well recorded and played
with a lot of energy.

All of my Caucasian sketches are old also. Interesting, I have nothing at all from Suite no. 2, op. 42. Not sure why.

There's a CD by Tjeknavorian on ASV with the op. 42 - recommended
according to my Penguin guide - also included are several other works by
I-I. I haven't heard it.

I imagine mswd was asking about op. 10. And I saw that I have Abravanel
doing op. 10 on one of the Vanguard download boxes (Big Russian Music
Box). It is reasonably well recorded and more subtle than Tjeknavorian -
but doubtless from more than 40 years ago...

I remembered the family Spotify account after posting and have listened to Tjek twice and Rozhdestvensky, which comes coupled with some novel orchestration of Pictures at an E. Of course, Spotify sucks, so good luck finding out what it is. I'll be on the lookout for both at a decent price.

I noticed that I have a Piatagorsky recording of one of the sketches, called "Danse d'Aoule." I can't find any other source labeling a sketch that way. I wonder which one it is and why it is called that.

In searching for the score I found the following: Oppolitov-Ivanov:
Caucasian Sketches (Dans le Define, Dans l'Aoule, Dans la Mosquee,
Cortege du Sardar). So it is the one labelled "In the village" - why
Aoule, I don't know...
