Can we be sure that the tempo is correct? I agree with Dan, it's a fascinating performance, strange. Relentless, I think lacking relief, in the second movement.

It doesn't really matter. Proportions
matter, not absolute speed. Even if
it is off a little, proportions do not
change.

There is abundant evidence from
other piano rolls recorded during
the early 1900s that tempi were
consistently faster in those times
than they are nowadays.

It is the most Sturm und Drang
Schumann Fantasie I heard,
even more so than Richter or
Sofronitsky.
