To establish a baseline and to learn how
this music should not be performed. The
French call this "apprendre par fuire", as
opposed to the conventional "apprendre
par suivre". It helps focus the brain and
develop critical listening skills.

So... why wouldn't you instead recommend the "best Liebesträume on record" instead? Would that not also be a baseline?

I do not "hate" Klien, German/Austrian pianists,
or anyone else. To say a performance of some
work is the worst I heard does not imply I "hate"
the performer.

and only best trick" as promoted by Marc S.

There are a few I like, and my preferences can
