A fragile young man agrees to sit THE VIGIL over a newly deceased
stranger. Unlike Christian spookery, Jewish horror gets scant attention
from the movie biz ...and indeed this viewer felt a bit foreign here.
But, no collection plate is passed, and ultimately the immersion's
novelty somewhat compensates for what may have been a shoestring budget.
And, most importantly, things do look boo-ish. Somewhat recommended.

Jews have no real Hell. That cuts out a lot of potential. They're left with Golems.

I don't recall Hell being much of a menace in scary movies, just in
Hallowe'en haunted houses in the Bible Belt...

If "Jewish horror" is a thing then movies with exorcisms are "Catholic
horror." Laughable. Anyhoo, I thought the movie was terrific. A
premise no one has ever seen before and it created one of the creepiest
atmospheres I've ever seen in a movie. It literally made me
uncomfortable to watch.

If Jews have read "Rich's" posts they know what hell is.

Horror movies have long been free to sport Christian/Catholic tropes
without even cursory explanation ...so yeah, this was different. I also
appreciated how the movie clung to at least token ambivalence toward
religion itself. And, yes, its premise was solid enough -- far creepier
than "golems", e.g. -- that we can wonder why it's not been used before.
