Enough has been written about the three main ballets from 1910-1913. But for Stravinsky fans there is much to love about the later ballets:

L’Histoire du Soldat 1918
Pulcinella 1920
Les Noces 1917 revised 1923
Apollo 1928
Le Baiser de la Fee 1928
Bluebird Pas de Deux 1941
Circus Polka 1942
Scenes de Ballet 1944
Orpheus 1947
Agon 1957
Jeux de Cartes 1963

The first three are well enough known to need no recommendation. As for which ones I listen to most, it would be Le Baiser de la Fee, Bluebird Pas de Deux, Scenes de Ballet and Orpheus. I have them all on a playlist and they are delightful - a nice way to pass an afternoon.

Any fans here?

Very much so. Favourite has always been Jeux de Cartes. Also, L'Histoire du Soldat (Markevitch/Cocteau), Les Noces (Ancerl), and while not ballets, in the same neo classical vein, Symphony in C and Symphony in 3 Movements. Then there is Apollo, a beautiful work. At one time Colin Davis was my imprint on the symphonies, available on Philips Duos. SInce then the big Stravinsky box came along and my searching sort of ended there.

I have the big Stravinsky box, of course. It should be in everyone's collection. I have the Ansermet box too, that's nice. And Boulez always good.

I listen quite a lot to Stravinsky. I've overdosed on the usual fare on this ng - Brahms, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt etc. I do listen to Beethoven but seldom the rest of it. I love Stravinsky so much for his harmony and orchestration - he was one of the great orchestrators. His music is so elegant, so clean, so intelligent. I don't know why his later works don't get much more appreciation. I rarely listen to the 3 early ballets, partly because they're very familiar but also because I prefer the later works. They're "easy listening" compared with Bartok, where you have to be more in the mood.

Yes - Apollo as well. I'm listening to it as I write. Here's an interesting video on Stravinsky's harmony methods - I've listened to it a few times:

I'm an Agon fan.
Orpheus, too, the music, though I've never seen the ballet.
Jeu de Cartes is just terrific music.
At the 1972 Stravinsky Festival, Balanchine turned several Stravinsky pieces into ballets, most succesfully the Violin Concerto and Symphony in 3 Mvts..

Stravinsky's later works get overshadowed by his more accessible earlier ones. The big box proves useful in this regard. I still listen to the big 3 ballets even so, every now and again. Also a big mention for Renard too. Also the Symphony of Wind Instruments. I don't really know why IS's star seems to have faded in the last few decades. Not for his fans though.

As for nearly all the western Romantic repertoire, it just bores me now, except for the Russians where colour and a certain melodic strain still attracts. I listen more to jazz instead, to be honest.

Yes, Renard is a favourite too.

Likewise, I'm listening to a lot more jazz. Ahmad Jamal, Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Clifford Jordan, Elvin Jones, Grant Green, Freddy Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Roland Kirk, Ed Bickert, Melissa Aldana .......

How about someone more contemporary, like English pianist Pat Thomas?

Not my thing, I'm afraid. Melissa Aldana is pretty contemporary and she's fantastic.

According to this 2009 article:

- Overrefinement was the defect of the virtue of Karajan’s style, and it is unlikely that Igor Stravinsky would have approved of the silken sounds that he drew from the string section of the Berlin Philharmonic in his recording of Apollo. Yet anyone familiar with George Balanchine’s lucid choreography for this landmark of neoclassicism will find Karajan’s seraphic reading both apposite and hard to resist.

I'm continuing to enjoy later Stravinsky. Le Baiser has become a favourite. Exploring some of the works I know less well like the Symphony for Wind Instruments.

I just love Stravinsky's harmonies and orchestrations. He was the contemporary master of these.
