Last year I found myself at a kids Christmas concert in a school in Wandsworth, not a rich neighbourhood of London by any means. Anyway, the school had had a bequest from a local resident, she left them her piano in her will - an big Pleyel! What a difference! Normally kids upstage everyone for me, I find it endearing and amusing, at least at first. But not in this case - the piano was just a teacher’s chords, but what tone! Sweet and strong tone.

I liked what I heard. It proves: 1. That excellent fake instruments can do a far better job than originals. 2. That original instruments are overrated. 3. That Landwoska had excellent taste. 4. That "Bach's way" lies in the future, not in the past. 5. And I could go on ...

I know because I owned one of the last ones they manufactured. That instrument certainly is not fake in any way. You just make things up to fit your biased narratives. I have felt this repeatedly.

Yes they did. However they were not the same
instruments made 120-150 years earlier. They
are "modern" "replicas". They don't sound the
same as the "original" ones. In other words,
FAKE. In this context "fake" refers to the
actual object, not to the brand.

Musicians as ''the largest harpsichord known to have been made before
the 20th century'' and as ''the only unquestionably genuine three-manual
harpsichord still in existence.'' It includes five sets of strings (a

including a lute (or nasale) stop, a buff (or harp) stop and coupling

Mr. Puyana said he first heard of this instrument from Landowska, who
used to tell of having seen it in 1900 at an exhibition in Paris.
''Nobody believed her,'' he said. Then, shortly before Landowska's death
in 1959, the Hass turned up on a magazine cover, treated more or less as
a splendid piece of furniture in private hands in Paris. A few years
