This movie was fine, a contemplative study of a soldier turned card-counter who has a dark past. But, the event at the end was so incredibly STUPID it drove the movie down. No, not the torture scene (which we don't see anyway), the part where the kid decides to face-down a professional soldier with a pellet gun!! The whole point was, until that event, the kid displayed NO such stupidity. It just came off as ridiculous.

And the soldier is back in Leavenworth for a civilian homicide. This movie wasted it's potential.

Absolutely one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Period!
Nonsensical plot, terrible, terrible acting, horrible score and a
rock bottom low budget. And if you have an interest in playing
poker, as I do, don't bother. There is nothing in this mess about
real poker. It looks like a group of high school seniors
scrapped together a few $thousand bucks, wrote this silly mess
and filmed it over the weekend! Don't waste your time!

schrader's wife mary beth hurt has alzheimer's. they live in the same
assisted living home. he doesn't have dementia but lives there too to keep
her company, though they are in separate units.
