I was taken by an uncle to see this horror film at some point in the early-to-mid 70s in downtown Hollywood.

There were a number of shrieking female vampires fairly early in the film. At one point, a person defended himself from them by brandishing a crucifix. He pressed it against one of the female vampires -- and it burned into her skin, causing her to howl hideously.

My uncle got scared, and demanded to leave the movie early, to my enormous resentment.

Does the scene I described ring a bell with anyone?

However, the film I'm wondering about was in theaters in the early-to-mid 70s.
