Hi guys,

I posted this YASID a bit over a year ago. No one knew the book but I got a few references that proved enjoyable reading. My memory of the book is vague (one of the reasons why no one found it) but I remember that I enjoyed it very much. So here goes again.

1. I read it more than 20 years ago. Quite possibly 30.
2. I think it may have been written by David Drake or David Weber, but I am not certain
3. It is a first contact story. The alien made itself detectable while appearing to enter our solar system for the first time, but it had in fact been observing us from the moon for a long time.
4. It had a habit of saying "Good story!" which seemed to mean, "Yeah, right!" or "Good explanation" or "I understand" depending on context.

That is literally all I remember about the book, other than I enjoyed it immensely.

Regards

I am drawing a total blank here.

Wait, wait, wait. How about "Agent To The Stars" by John Scalzi ? But
it was first published in 2005.

Hmm. Considering tenor of the news coverage of the aftermath of the
Afghanistan war, the Wikipedia account of the novel's plot invites the
substitution of Taliban for each instance of the Yherjak.

What ? No. The Yherjak were friendly, just many tentacled and stinky.

The Taliban would like to cut your head off with a dull knife.
