I listened to Le Marteau Sans Maitre in 3 different versions by Boulez and rather enjoyed it once I got in the mood.

We used to talk quite a lot about his music in the olden days. In particular about his second sonata for piano solo (here splendidly performed by Pollini):

The Incises (1994) are my preferred Boulez for piano solo. It's well-written for piano. Probably because it was composed as an imposed work for a piano competition. In this link probably performed by Boffard:

I like the one here, it's easy to find streaming I think

But mostly I don't enjoy Boulez in his own ensemble music as much as others, and Marteau is no exception. I much prefer Daniel Kawka.

That being said, I'm not a great lover of Marteau. I much prefer Pli Selon Pli.

I'd be surprised if you didn't enjoy the piano version (which is the first version) of Notations. There's a very nice recording from David Fray.

I don't have any interest in the sonatas myself, but I was impressed by Boulez's own performance of a bit of the third here

Yes. He was a great defender of modern music. He introduced me to Berio, who is far easier to listen to than Boulez.

I don't pretend to understand Boulez's music, but I simply like the sounds of Le Marteau. Almost pretty to these ears.
