Had James G. Blaine lived longer and been in good health in 1896, could he have taken the 1896 GOP presidential nomination away from William McKinley? In the 1892 contest for the GOP presidential nomination, Blaine and McKinley essentially tied for second place, which makes me wonder just how Blaine would have fared in 1896 had he lived longer, been in good health, and actually been actively competing for the GOP presidential nomination that year..
