He looks huge, if he's under $300 I'll be amazed. Of course this might make the price of Siege Jetfire drop. I'm a little surprised it took them so long to get to him.

I'm so excited that there's some actual news about this guy finally. It feels like they teased him forever ago, and then for the longest time, nothing. Not like Starscream Two-Point-Oh where we got regular updates and progression shots.

I'm sure Takara isn't in love with Jetfire. I mean, he was a Bandai toy, and Bandai was The Enemy™. I'm sure it was because of Takara that the Skyfire character was ripped out of the show prematurely. (I read somewhere that, in Japan, they didn't air the episodes with Skyfire in them until the very end of the show, well after season three.)

But, he looks kind of awesome. I wonder how complex his transformation actually is. Since the Skyfire cartoon design was created by Floro Dery, he had a very simple on-screen transformation. Basically, the jet nose flipped up, his legs tucked in a little, and his chest panels opened to the sides. But, knowing Takara's ingenuity, they'll have engineered some crazy seventy-seven step transformation in which the entire jet folds up and tucks into his legs or some such nonsense.

I'm terrified to see what he'll cost.

Zob (NECA's human versions of Splinter and Bebop and Rocksteady and Baxter Stockman are also going on sale tomorow)

So we can see tons of articulation, we see his Gerwalk, as well as a stand and minifigures of Optimus, Wheeljack, and Jazz (I wonder if those are Unicron compatible?) , as well as multiple faces (possibly whole heads?) and a few other callbacks to Macross Valkyrie. People were complaining he's not in scale, but his robot is to scale even though his jet isn't.

The GERWALK mode is hilarious. It's such a cheeky callback to the Macross toy. (Skyfire did have a "mid-transformation" mode that he used a couple of times in the cartoon, but mostly it was his robot mode with a jet cockpit for a face, and looked nothing like what the G1 toy could achieve.)

Maybe Takara isn't as upset about Bandai as they used to be. Or maybe they're still seething with hatred and this is how they get to be passive-aggressive about it. In any event, I think it's all great.

People complain about EVERY SINGLE TOY that comes out now. They won't be truly happy until Godzilla demolishes Tokyo, and Rhode Island sinks into the ocean, and we get nothing else forever and ever.

Skyfire changed size in the cartoon. There's no way to recreate a properly-scaled toy that's accurate in both forms. So, they got the robot mode right, and they cheated the jet mode, which is why he comes with tiny slug figurines. I feel like this should be obvious. But, sometimes things are obvious to me that aren't obvious to other people.

Zob (that $290 price tag though)

The Skyfire episodes didn't air until the end of Season 2, with The
Ultimate Doom used as the "series finale". Two Skyfire episodes didn't
air at all and went straight to Laserdisc in the 1990s.

The Japanese animators later snuck him into a crowd scene in an episode
of The Headmasters, which I appreciated.
