Just think of all the species that were destroyed when the IJselmeer was created, or when Rotterdam was expanded to deal with the riches brought into the country by the colonialist merchant marine from South Africa and the East and West Indies? Not to mention all those clog-dancing mevrouws squashing every crawling insect and earthworm in sight. But is it really time to return the Netherlands to their original condition?
