.... I hurry to my Blue Heron, an obviously world-class American early music ensemble of whom I had not heard, sadly. Their annual season of performances is held in Cambridge, Mass.

The reason that I have heard of them now is that one of their recordings is included in a list of Ten of the Best Recordings of Early Music which appears in the current issue of The Gramophone. How strange ...

They have done some foreign tours. I have heard them many times at their home location, a church, and do not think that the CDs match the intensity of the live performances. In particular, they generally present a very effective Christmas program each year, but a CD of one of their Christmas programs just seems to lie flat. And I wanted to like it.
