I remember reading Pohl's "Good-By" as a coda to his _The Way the Future Was_, but nothing else.

Turns out I would have read it in _The Best of Destinies_ anthology.
Or was it a special issue of the magazine? Hard to tell.

There was also an ancillary anthology of material acquired for Destinies but then
deemed surplus to needs. Edited by John McEnroe. Interface, I think?

I had no idea there were more stories in the "enemy stars" world. Are there
others?

You link to your earlier review of an earlier Destinies, which points to a title _Proteus_.
I never heard of it, but IsfDb shows it to say "A Destinies Special" on the cover
in not particularly large type.

Around this time OMNI magazine also ran its Best of in the same form factor as its magazine (but squarebound instead of stapled), and also included reprinting the illustrations. Was that to reuse the printing plates -or by then film- it wouldn't have worked for Omni, after the first couple of pages the stories run for a jigsaw puzzle maze of "continued on page..." They also had an anthology or two, called something like "Omni Science Fiction Reader," of I think original fiction not published in the magazine.

Ah, right. Proteus. Always wondered why McEnroe didn't end up at Baen. Seemed
a good fit and clearly, he'd worked with Baen at Ace.
