I still think Sawallisch and Eichhorn sit at the top. NH is quite good, for sure.

The Klemperer recording you recommended (Vienna Philharmonic, 1968, live) would now be at the top of my pile if I had that cd in my possession.

Unfortunately , the Testament box (SBT8 1365) which contains it is expensive and it includes two recordings I already have on another CD:
Schubert 8 "Unfinished" and Beethoven 5, also outstanding.
