As a side note, would it be fair to say that Austria-Hungary will become less bellicose in this TL once Kaiser Karl comes to power there, whenever that might be?

That would probably depend on how many of his close relatives Serbian
terrorists manage to murder.....of course in OTL the war was largely
lost by the time of his accession to the throne.

I would be interested in hearing about any scenario involving an
Austro-Hungarian loss in anything resembling WW1 that DOESN'T lead to
the secession of Hungary. (I would accept any version of state union
or dynastic union without governmental union. I do think Austria and
Hungary were too equal to have anything like the situation between
Great Britain and Hanover pre-Victoria)

If Russia steps back and allows Austria-Hungary to kick Serbia's butt, then I think that the threat of Serbian terrorism will be significantly diminished--at least for a while.
