summary: Tom Cruise is back, now as an instructer,
but yeah, y'all just know he'll be flying in one
of those "the fate of the free world depends on him" deals.

Formulaic, but has absolutely great flying imagery [b].

Oh, and of course, lots of Navy Flyer Buddy Buddy stuff
plus cliches left and right.

Good news: He does NOT sing at the bar this time, trying
to serenade Kelly McGillis. Oh, and the alternate Hot Babe
in this episode is winner of the Jennifer Esposito
lookalike contest (Jennifer Connelly).

I'm willing to overlook lots of disbelief here, including,
for example, a 45ish y/o Cruise staying fully awake,
alert, and able to move his head and hands around
at a 10G climb [c], but, well, there's one I can't forgive.

Cruise and Connelly are doing their thing on her sailboat
(it's, ahem, his first time...) as it bounces up and down
in the wind and waves, and _neither_ of them are wearing
life vests.

A pleasnt enough diversion for a few hours.

Ahhhh... final point: the one thing I was hoping
for was a line by Cruise, channeling Petroni when
the latter got that 707 out of the ditch next to
the runway in "Airport", where Tom would say:

"That's the best thing about an F-14 [d]. She can
do anything but read".

[a] It was supposed to be released a few years ago
but financing, Hollywood, Covid, etc.

[b] I saw it in "IMax 2-D", which definitely looked great.
Reminds me of Ye Olden Daize with real wide format Technicolour

[c] I dunno... can our current fighters actually
pull a 10G vertical climb?

[d] yes, an F-14. Explaining that here would be
a Big Spoiler
