Had the Roomba mattered enough to you, it would have been replaced.

That's one way to tell what really matters: if it is lost or damaged
and you don't replace it, well, it clearly didn't matter very much.

I was really hoping that someone would comment on my title which is a
play on "The Dragon and the George". Oh well. I guess that there are
not many Gordon R. Dickson fans here.

Maybe best not to ask where they came from.

I think this won't end well.

The company - iRobot - designed a "Roomba mower"
called Terra, but they decided last year not to put it
on sale, not yet anyway.

Probably recognized that that niche was already well filled.
Home Depot carries at least 4 brands of robotic lawn mower.
Husqvarna has 15 different models.

Not considering how broke we were. And still are, in the context
of trying to save up enough money to move out of Vallejo this
summer. We tried to do that last summer, only to discover that
every part of the Bay Area that isn't Vallejo is more expensive
than Vallejo.

Not as much as eating, paying the rent, and saving up to get out
of Vallejo, city of too many hills.

I'm a gadget freak from way back and lazy besides. I've never wanted

Here's a goal. Create a robot that can compete in a tank biathlon.
Note that it has to be able to load itself from ammunition boxes.

I'd settle for a robot that can pick up a book, scan its title
and author, and put it in its place on the shelves.

And a Hired Girl Mark 2, that not only can pick up dust and other
stuff from the floor, but categorize the other stuff as
Recycling, Composting, Miscellaneous Trash, and Ask the Human.

If I had that amount of disposable income, yes.

We don't have dogs. I can't remember the last time a cat vomited

get up off the floor mostly dust, which a Roomba can handle, and
shed human hair, which it can't.
