The assailant is certainly of Middle Eastern appearance, as they say, but the NSW police are still investigating, a crime scene has been established, and Westfield Bondi Junction remains closed. So far there is no evidence of a conspiracy, and the assailant appears to have acted alone.

Bondi has always been home to part of Sydney's Jewish community, which is not to say that is a Jewish suburb like Williamsburg, NY. The Australian newspaper reports I've read do not mention "an Israeli newspaper", which sounds extremely odd: if the incident was outside a restaurant run by Mr and Mrs Gruenblatt famous for its blintzes that would sound more likely. How many of the victims were Jewish I do not know.

The latest news about this incident is that a sixth person has died in hospital. She was the mother of a baby who was injured in the attack.
The assailant was known to the police, is believed to have acted alone, He was stupid enough to raise his knife when confronted with an armed policewoman on the fifth floor of the centre, who shot the man dead.
Victims appear to have been attacked in various shops on various floors of the centre, and not next to an "Israeli restaurant". The latter appears to refer to a sit down / take away joint called "Kibbutz" whose cuisine seems to be general Middle Eastern rather than Jewish specifically: its speciality appears to be falafels, although it does advertise "Jewish Salad", no doubt to attract members of the Bondi Jewish community. Reviews are mixed.

This 'rubbish' comes from the New South Wales Police. The original post - with its reference to "an Israeli restaurant" is trying very hard to make it look like the act of an anti-Semite, but unfortunately all the stabbings seem to have occurred nowhere near what turns out to be simply a middle-eastern take-away with a few tables in a very, very large shopping centre. How many - if any - of this character's victims were in fact Jewish, we do not know. Lots of goyim live in Bondi Junction.

I am sure that if the NSW Police knew of any connection between the assailant and any antisemitic organisation they would have told us.

And if I were going to carry out antisemitic attack in Australia, I wouldn't have picked Bondi Junction anyway. I'd have gone to South Caulfield in Melbourne where it is far easier to pick out who is Jewish and who is not. Many of the former wear long black overcoats, white shirts and black homburg hats, the latter being replaced by shtreimels of the Shabbat and high holy days. And I wouldn't have gone to a big shopping centre, I'd have gone to a synagogue.

The New South Wales Police have just released the details of the assailant's identity. His name is Joel Cauchi and he comes from Queensland. He is very definitely *not* a Moslem, and just as definitely, *not* a member of a terrorist organisation, Islamic or otherwise.

According to Wikipedia, the Cauchis originate in Malta, whose population is traditionally Catholic. Many of them are swarthy in appearance, like many from the Middle East.

So I'm afraid that the whole interpretation of this event as a plot by Islamic terrorists has collapsed like a burst balloon.

The number of persons in Bondi Junction who are affiliated to Judaism is 1,425, 13.7% of the population. For NSW as a whole, the figure is 40,249, or 0.5%. In other words, it's famous as a suburb with a larger-than-usual Jewish population rather than as a Jewish suburb. The assailant would have had a better chance of stabbing a Catholic, or a person with no religion at all.

As long as applicants for Australian immigration can satisfy the authorities that they have the skills required by the current Australian economy, your Jews should have no problem.

Australia took in thousands of European Jews from displacement camps following WW2. Their contribution to Australia's arts and sciences and, it goes without saying, commerce has been enormous.

To conclude, one of the victims of this insane attack was a 30 year old security guard. He was a Muslim from Pakistan. The body is now in a Sydney mosque, awaiting transport back to his family.

Sorry for the late follow up Andrew — in this case I’ve been very wrong. Sorry for not taking your critical words and insight on this case more seriously. I gave Visegrad24 in this case too much credit with his description of the accuser as a terrorist - to note: Visegrad24 has corrected himself as well. I assumed he had some intel i and you didn’t.

This was in fact a coincidence. Had it been an Islamic terrorist or a Muslim the chances would’ve been high though that this could’ve been an antisemitic motivated attack.

WRT what I said about the Australian authorities generally not adressing Islamic antisemitism and homophobia etc because of their voterbase and ideology and generally being too well meaning still is true though. - it is not a conspiracy; people are just too well meaning these days.

Generally I want to advise you to be more critical about how the Islamic ideology influences people — not only wrt Israel but the general outlook on the world.

It also can’t be denied that generally speaking when it comes to massacres committed by foreigners in western societies Muslims seem to hold a very high place. This is not a coincidence.

When Christmas markets in Germany have to be guarded because of Muslims using trucks to run over people — and they have these big stones at the markets now, really ugly stones to prevent Muslims from running people over (reminds one of how Muslims try to run over Israelis all the time) — and all the other security measures (airports becauseo of bin laden) we have to take because of Muslims (and the rise in stabbing attacks in European countries — German government admitted crime did rise because of immigration-policies, yet they don’t do anything about it „because not every immigrant is a murderer“ - sure, but we have to be more careful in who we let in our societies; no open borders shit or how it’s being done now).

With all of this in the back of my mind - my thoughts about this crime (thinking he was a terrorist) having an antisemitic motivation wasn’t too far fetched I believe; but in this case I was not critical enough
