Uh I've been using Forte 8 (which I've used I think since the Win 7
days) with Windows 10 since the first day of the public Win 10
release.

What was your problem with it? I've never even had a hiccup with it.

Agent should work fine with Win10, I used it for years but migrated to a
Mac reader recently.

This may be a repeat, as I tried replying using Newsbin (great for
binaries, horrible for text). I'm trying MicroPlanet Gravity now, sort
of the opposite of Newbin.

In fact, it may be the server I'm using, NewsGroupDirect/NewsDemon. It
stopped working on W7, spinning it wheels and never finishing
downloading headers. I'm not sure if I even tried it on W10, so perhaps
I should. The people at Forté Agent said that there was no support
anymore and hung up (figiratively), and the people at NGD said it wasn't
thier fault, it worked fine for other people.

The question should not be whose fault it is. Who cares whose fault it
is? What you want is a solution to the problem.

The question should be, what is actually causing the problem? And, if
it can be finessed, how to do so.

And a support board, there or elsewhere, might be worth checking out.

I don't really like boards, I prefer Usenet, but I have found
product-specific support boards to be useful from time to time.

Well given the number of people who have posted that they're running
Agent 8 on Windows 10 just fine thank you I'm sure he's smart enough
to know he needs to investigate other sources for his problem.

I went directly from Win 7 => Win 10 and if memory serves was on Win 7
when Agent 8 came out. A lot of us figured at the time that this was
the last version so as long as they did the basic bug fixes (which
they did do initially) we were good.

In any case when Win 10 came out Agent required no reinstall or
anything about the data files so I can't pretend I thought much about
it. It worked well from day 1 of Win 10 and has ever siince on this
machine.

I don't remember clearly when I last had to actually /install/ Agent.
The purchase of my desktop with Win 8.1 on it may well be the last
time (unless moving from that to Win 10 required it).

This was not as smooth as I would have liked, mainly because, at some
point, Agent had stopped saving its data files in its own directory
and moved them off to a hidden directory. Some sort of Microsoft
innovation, no doubt.

But, when I found that directory, I had no trouble recovering all my
groups, posts, and emails from backup. Well (for Win 8.1), after
installing a special edition of the NT Backup program that could do
restores from the backup file, that is.
