Although I'm not really a fan of the orchestral contribution... I guess Gelber is really the best in Brahms' 1st pc... hmm... should probably add him to my fav pianists as well then...

I have heard Rubies many times coming from the orchestra pit, it's the music to Balanchine's ballet Rubies, the middle part of the green, red and white trilogy Jewels.

Same with the Violin Concerto.

Just listened a bit to Mahler again, and ya...I just don't get along with him, similar to Tchaikovsky or Schumann... and most other composers... except for Schoenberg, Webern and Berg... and maybe some of Boulez and Xenakis...

On another note (there was a thread on tc comparing Wunderlich and Burrows in DG I stumbled on earlier)... it seems Wunderlich sucks (can't believe how overrated he is (at least in Mozart)... there is not a single Mozart record I actually liked him in... I thought his voice was okay; but hmmm, he can't sing, at least not Mozart.... (I remember liking him in Klemperer's Mahler DLVDE - might think about this differently now)... I like Simoneau and Schreier more...

Kempff/Konwitschny/Staatskapelle_Dresden -
Brahms: Piano Concerto No.1 in D minor,
Op.15 (1957) is also very good .....

..... as long as it is played at 45 rpm!

I grew up with this performance and I was
imprinted on it (at 45 rpm). Hearing Gelber
for the first time was like a breath of
fresh air to my ears.

After having spent a little time with Haydn again… no I can’t rate him over Brahms…. He’s far below Brahms in my estimation… don’t need him… I just don’t find him that interesting tbh… i would also rate Bach and Schubert above him…

Kempff sounded unusually good from what I heard... I seem to prefer him far over Sorita here (and Conrad Hansen)... Sorita's approach is a bit similar to how Moravec plays Beethoven PC4... beautiful, but not really special...

Kempff certainly is not nearly as good as Gelber here; and there are many weaknesses in his phrasing…. But he was much better than expected; sorita I feel is a little dull here… not enough power in certain places - It feels a bit bland and politically correct (Moravec in Beethoven PC4 is better than sorita is in Brahms
Pc1 ; what I meant is: a rather too elegant approach for this work)

To be clear neither sorita nor Kempff are to my taste, but Kempff was interesting in some parts… but yes he sucks (should have worded myself more carefully; „unusually good for him“/i was surprised)

On another note: I don’t need Bach and I rate Schubert above him.

Fav composers: Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert (not so sure about the position of Brahms and Schubert yet… maybe I actually like Schubert more… anyway… no time right now to further think about this — but I’m sure I don’t need Bach)

_Bach Uncaged_ by Zachary Carretin (violin) & Mina Gajic (piano)
on Sono Luminis label (& streaming). The "cage" does refer to John
Cage, and the program basically alternates BWV 1001 with Cage Sonatas
for prepared piano. The "twist" is that this duo presents the Bach
pieces in free tempi, as a sort of "dreamscape" (their words), while
the notated Cage pieces are in strict tempo. They summarize the
program: "Cage offers the morning coffee following each Bachian
dream."

It means there is not enough samurai… probably because sirota is a self-hating Japanese ;)

Honestly… listen to gelber or Rubinstein/Reiner — this just sounds like

It wasn't written for samurai.

I heard them live and on records long
before you were born.

Maybe you should stick to Meowszart's
meowperas.

Maybe, but it definitely wasn’t written for Sorita… as we can hear….

Not impressed - did you hear Mozart live?

Sure, why not, it’s the best music anyway — maybe stop wasting more time listening to Scheissmusik as you usually do ;)

Just realized…. Brahms is not really to my taste; screw him — Bach and Schubert over Brahms by far… (*Bach is one of my
Fav composers again…)
