From being having their city destroyed? - Nope.

From having a great loss of life? - not even.

The only advantage which would accrue those two cities is that
they would not be the icons for millions who hope that others will
turn away from technology because it is too horrible. As they did
with the repeating rifle, the machine gun, high explosives, poison
gas, etc.
