Are they toy-makers who're fans and make good toy figures (at least with Transformers, as I've seen on places like tfsource.com)? If so, is there a way to reach them?

Fans Toys is a separate company that make transforming robots based off of Transformers characters but with different names to avoid pissing off Hasbro Most of their toys are very detailed, and some are incredibly complicated.

They made some good combiners before Hasbro got around to it, but with a lot of their robots being $150+ some of their combiners are $400-700

I've only seen a few in person but they are big at some of the conventions, like last week's TFcon they had a big booth.

Fans Toys makes expensive, Masterpiece-scaled Transformers, and they are indeed detailed and complicated. They're one of a number of China-based companies that are filling the void that Takara has abandoned in the MP space (see Fans Hobby, Transform Element, DX9, etc). Filling the void, and emptying the wallet.

I'd strongly recommend avoiding TFSource - their prices are usually the highest, and their card security is well-known for being terrible - cards are hacked on a seemingly regular basis.
