Penny's Poetry Blog's poem for Valentine's Day:
To Helen, by Edgar Allan Poe

Helen, thy beauty is to me
Like those Nicéan barks of yore,
That gently, o'er a perfumed sea,
The weary, way-worn wanderer bore
To his own native shore.

Interesting music adaptation, good selection, George.

The music went on a bit long for my taste, at least at first reading,
but it was interesting and I suppose I'll grow to like it. (I can't
remember hearing any Erik Satie since the second Blood, Sweat & Tears
album all those years ago.) And the reading itself was easily the best
of the few versions I found online. I was suprised how few there were.

I am trying to add videos to everything; it's one way to add value to
the blog. I've embedding videos to the wiki for years, but it's just in
the last year or two that I started with the blog. And it's just in 2023
that I started including that information ("read by" or "sung by") on
the promos. I don't know how it's going to affect the numbers in the
long run, but I think it's already resulted in a few visits. Eleanor
Farjeon's "Morning Song for the First Day of Spring" has been getting
regular visits, for example, and I do think those readers are choosing
to read the poem on my site because they also get to hear cat Stevens
sing it.

I need to check it out, I had an amusing flame war back in 1999 in which Cat Stevens was mentioned.

I doubt that BBS was archived.

Yes, there's a 500+ message long discussion of this very poem in the archives.

As I remember, that got into a heated debate over whether it was
necessary to know about Jane Stanard to understand the poem. I suppose
we can give the link, for anyone on RAP who might be interested.
