So we went out and found a Transmettal 2 Megatron with a broken right leg, and a Transmetal 2 Megatron with a broken left leg, but we can't figure out how to safely disconnect his legs to put both good legs on the same toy. I either have to pull glue apart or remove a pin from a very thin area. I don't want to do either if I don't know how to do it safely.

Any recommendations?

Ugh, are you really going to make me dig out my box of Beast Wars toys?

Oh, wait. I forgot. I live in a house now. I don't have everything shoved into the triangle-shaped storage room under the stairs at the condo. Everything is readily accessible now. Yay!

So where is the break, exactly? Because it seems like you should be able to easily remove the leg at the hip joint, assuming the hip itself isn't the problem. Otherwise, yeah, it looks like you might need to remove a pin. I haven't had much success with that. Sometimes I've cut away at the plastic, assuming it's a piece I don't need, to gain better access to the pin before pulling it out with a pair of needlenose pliers or something.

At this late stage, though, why not just wait for the Legacy version to come out?

The hip seems to be glued together, as it does not want to open up, but I don't want to shatter it trying to separate it.
There is absolutely no extra plastic around the pin, it's in a ridiculously thin place in the groin area.

The Legacy version is already here. Came in yesterday. Got all of wave 3 yesterday except the core figures we got a few weeks ago.

had one in the sale case last month, then something on a higher shelf fell on him.

Not sure on that one. The plastic is over 20 years old at this point, so it's likely gotten brittle. I guess the toy is already broken, so even if you ruin it trying to get it apart, it's not a complete loss.

The built-in structural flaws of BW TM and TM2 Megatron feel like one of the biggest letdowns in TF toy history. Both great designs, and an iconic character (for better or for worse): it's a pity that there's basically no point in even sourcing either of these toys on the secondary market, because they'll just fall apart in the end.
