It's not what I was looking for, and not a line that I remember,
but, as (used to be) usual, Doctor Who is visiting a significant
date in Earth history...

"The Romans haven't even got a word for “volcano”.
Not until tomorrow."

YASID if you like ;-)

Wikipedia: "The word volcano is derived from the name
of Vulcano, a volcanic island in the Aeolian Islands of Italy
whose name in turn comes from Vulcan, the god of fire in
Roman mythology. (Because, well, duh.) The study of
volcanoes is called volcanology, sometimes spelled
vulcanology."

<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcano#Mythology>
TL,DR: they thought he lived there... and worked there.
Because - see above.

I'm sure the episode must be "The Fires of Pompeii" from 2008, with David Tennant as the Doctor. A pretty good episode, also notable for the presence of Peter Capaldi playing one of the parts, in his pre-Doctor days!

Were you looking for the line, "Volcano Day"? As in, "There is a lot of trouble you aren't prepared for, and here it is."
I know it was used in the Eccleston run, but I don't remember where.

That was in "The Doctor Dances," the second part of "The Empty
Child." Captain Jack Harkness (wwhose first appearance is in
thie two-parter) has confessed to being a con man; he mentions
that one of his favorite times/paces is Pompeii--"But you gotta
set you alarm so you don't sleep through volcano day." A bit
later on, when they're being pursued by the gene-modified
patients and staff of the hospital, Jack asks, "What happened?"
and the Doctor says, "You forgot to set your alarm; it's volcano
day!:
