I seem to recall that he stopped by rec.arts.sf.written some 20+
years ago. A bunch of people responded with "Oh, I read your
books as a kid and they were great. Thanks for writing them!".

Something similar happened in his obituary thread: someone wondered whether Christopher/Youd was Jewish, his daughter responded with a "no", and plenty of people passed on condolences to her, saying how great his books were.
