Supposedly, the German surrender was signed rather late on May 8th, so
late that it was after midnight in Moscow.

The production values were almost Whovian. The direction and script
make Ed Wood look like Orson Welles. Scenery was nice--didn't look
like a surgical enhancement in the lot and none of them were starving
themselves. But that's about it. Nothing happened. There wasn't any
"there" there. Couldn't figure out the costuming on the redhead--was
she having some problems that the panties couldn't handle? The whole
thing was rather innocent--kind of like a couple of polite guys who
mistakenly wandered onto a topless beach. And given the color change
over the course of it, I suspect that some of those women were _very_
uncomfortable for a while after.

As I recall there were two "surrenders". The first on May 8 inside
territory controlled by the Western Allies. Stalin threw a fit and
demanded another signing of the surrender documents inside Russian
controlled territory, which took place on May 9.

You forgot the context:

2017: Trump, realizing that the only way to get Mexico to pay for the
Wall, invades.

Initially, they reach Monterrey, but soon they are pushed back to
within a few miles of the border. Still on the Mexican side, however.

The Mexicans then use helicopters to attack (with a missile) a
military target -- a Texaco station being used by the US Army to
refuel its vehicles near, say, McAllen TX. Gov Abbot goes ballistic.

/That/ would be the equivalent situation. The aggressor finds that he
not only cannot win the war, he cannot even contain it to the country
he has invaded.

And, no, nukes do not get launched.

Although the base the choppers flew from might be targetted by a
missile with a conventional warhead.

I think Cavorite is manufactured in liquid form.
And... a nice image of the rocket could be inserted,
but none of the audience were here to look at a rocket.

However this vehicle is clearly not propelled by Cavorite.

I was expecing the guy with the pipe to blow them all to Hell. Smoking
a pipe in close proximity to experimental rocket fuel is not, in
general, a good idea.

Trump had legal limits on his power and people who might prevent a
nuclear launch in that situation.

Putin does not and will have those who disobey shot.

And most recently as "A Jadoon Platoon, Nude on the Moon" to get a few to watch it out of curiosity.

I think the redhead had a muffintop she did not want on camera so she
pinned a scarf around her waist. They should have gone all in and set it
on Venus and done something(anything) about the script.

Actually this reminds me of another film mentioned in the thread,Tammy
and the T-rex. Tammy was made because the filmmakers had access to an
animatronic T-rex(which could not move its legs so they wheeled it around
on a cart without making much effort to hide it on screen) from a theme-
park for a week. And these filmmakers seem to have had access to some
attractive women willing to go topless onscreen(but not in a vulgar way)
so they made a movie. Both of them seemed to have mostly ignored the
need for a script, because who needs a script when you have dinosaurs and
titties?

Solid fuel ICBMs are always loaded an ready to go. Liquid fuel ICBMs
require four hours to load the fuel. And liquid fuel off gases over
time becoming unusable in a few years. You know this.

Do solid fuel rockets require any maintenance other than loading new
fuel every 20 ? 30 ? 40 ? years ?

I guess one has to consider the times. The titties are mostly
interesting because they are natural, post-Internet-porn-barrage they
certainly don't shock, anymore than a craptastic animatronic dinosaur
appeals after however many installments of Jurassic Park, or a
stop-motion monster after Alien.

Titan II was liquid fuel and could launch on 60 seconds notice. It's
called "storable propellants". Google it.

Well, for one thing the O-rings need to be inspected periodically.

But the fact is that nuclear warheads do not remain usable when stored
over that period of time. The trigger involves a high-level neutron
emitter with a short half-life, among other things.

And then there's the little issue that if the thing is not maintained,
the fuel may light but it isn't going very far if it's contained in a
shell of solid rust.

Does the machinery to open to silo doors require maintenance? Do the
personnel manning the installation need training and regular drilling to
remember how to do the launch procedures? Do the communication links
from command to the silos need to be maintained and staffed by people
who know how to work them? For that matter do the people who are
supposed to be doing all this need to actually get paid instead of their
allocated salaries getting re-routed to some general's Swiss bank account?

The pay is likely to go where it's supposed to. The thing is they get
paid in rubles, which outside of Russia are pretty much toilet paper.

That might be the reason for the 2 surrender signings. However, I reread
the wikipedia article more closely and it was the timing of the
ceasefire order that is important (the 2nd document was signed in Berlin
on the 7th, with the ceasefire ordered for on the 8th, late enough that
it was past midnight in Moscow).

This raises a question. Recently, La Puta insisted that all payment for
Russian petro-stuff be made in rubles. Why wouldn't he insist that it
be in money? Like Euros or dollars, or even something like Turkish lira?

One place's analysis, similarly supported by other places:
https://fortune.com/2022/04/01/why-putin-wants-russia-to-be-paid-in-roubles/

"...
By weaponizing his trade surplus, Putin not only props up the ruble but demonstrates internally his sway over Europe: Importers like Germany would be forced to weaken their own currency and strengthen his just to keep the lights on back home.

“That would massively undermine our central bank sanctions,” thundered Norbert Röttgen, the former chairman of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee, last week after the threat was first made.
...."

And yet, when Ukraine attacked a similar target /inside Russia/, no
nukes were launched.

Get it? Russia was attacked; no nukes were launched.

Just attacking Russia from the air isn't enough.

But I wouldn't advise putting boots on the ground.

impression.

When the country has a totalitarian dictator, the doctrine is "do what
I say", regardless of any little pieces of paper that say otherwise.

Well, I've read it a couple time now, and the only argument that I can
follow is:
“A shift of the exchange rate risk from Gazprom as exporter to its
importer counterparts in the ‘unfriendly’ countries could potentially
result in rising energy costs if the ruble gains value in the medium
to longer run,” wrote Alexander Mihailov, an economist at the University
of Reading in the U.K.

This I can understand, but as it says, it's not a short-term benefit for
La Puta.

Thanks.

I'm sorry you missed the article.

The /Russians/ were upset by it. And said so.

But no nukes were used.
