Space is filling up in the garage and my one other room I've dedicated for action figure collection storage. Most of my problem is I've never thrown away the packaging for anything post 1986. But over the last few weeks I've been on a rampage, chucking boxes and cardbacks and all associated packaging for every line post G2. It has been nerve wracking. It has been emotional.. It has been cathartic.

I think my hoarding boxes problem is because I am trying to atone for when I was a kid and I tore up all those '78-'85 action figure packages. I don't wish I'd never opened things, I just wish I was more careful and would have preserved the boxes of toys from that era more completely than I did. So I've been overcompensating. (I have been keeping the Studio Series backdrops. I'm grateful that I never really liked RiD 2001 or Legacy packaging-it made those easier to chuck. The Titans Return stuff was beautiful, though. Probably the best packaging in the last 30 years.)

And in a strange way, throwing away the boxes made me feel like a kid again, moreso than preserving everything down to the little twistys and plastic tie tabs like I've been doing all these decades. Nothing really makes me feel like a kid again like doing exactly what I used to do when I was a kid. But this time I let go without regret, and it feels fun again to have these things.

Did the same thing recently, partly due to a flood and partly due to... uh, another flood. (Yeah, it's probably a good thing I got out of that condo when I did. I imagine it's fully submerged by this point.)

It feels good, doesn't it? I don't save ANY packaging now. At all. I think my reasons might have been different than yours... when I was a young adult, I was a collector of very limited means, and I always told myself that if I saved all the packaging, if I got desperate I could stuff all the toys back into their boxes and sell them. But, I've never had to do that, and now we're doing reasonably well financially, so if it wasn't necessary then, it won't ever be necessary now.
