Inhibitor Phase. Alastair Reynolds. Revelation Space 5,

I read this back in February so suspect Reynolds fans will also have
read it. I loved the first four books.

It started brilliantly as usual but deteriorated to dreadful, dreadful.
I did not like the protagonist, the plot, and struggled to finish it.

Scorpio, previously a significant character, did not contribute but was
continually deified by others despite being inactive and useless.
Multiple gods in machines. Boring dialogue. Enough!

While I didn't find it all that exciting, my reaction was much less negative than yours. It was a bit scattered and some of the parts seemed like extra stories appended to the main without helping things too much.
