Here's something from my blog I decided to put up here as a follow-up to an early plug, a review of the Harryhausen film Valley of Gwangi. It's of some further note for the very random "cowboys and dinosaurs" trope, which I understand has further representation in printed sci fi, though the only example I can recall reading is a tale called "The Last Thunder Horse West of the Mississippi". Does anyone know of more examples, in print, movies or other media?

America vs dinosaur-riding Cheyenne. More or less the Manos Hands of Fate
of alternate history.

They're sort of hard to pull off, given that cowboys and dinosaurs are
in generally distinct genres. Harryhausen (and Schneer) did it though.

The closest I can think of is /Cowboys & Aliens/, which tries a
similar mashup. Not as good as /The Valley of Gwangi/ but then,
Harryhausen is hard to beat!

My takeaway from "The Beast of Hollow Mountain" was two rival ranchers had to put aside their differences in the face of a natural disaster. (The natural disaster was the dinosaur of the title.) To my young mind, this made the hour of boring cowboy disputes in the movie doubly useless.

There is the comicbook TUROK, in which a native of the American Southwest wanders into a valley of dinosaurs and loses his way out. "Indians vs. dinosaurs" if you wish.
