I have both Sagamore titles; I know that I have read them; I can't
remember very much of the plots of either. Perhaps I was reading too
many books, too fast, back in the 1980s.

Fuck.

An unwilling prince is drawn into high level plots driven in part by
the terrible decision to transform a metaphor into fact.

Around that time I was heavily into Julian May's The Many Colored Land
series and even 40 years later I very much remember the exact crime
that got anti-hero Aiken Drum exiled through the trans-temporal gap to
6 million BC!

(There was a dam near his home town with a leak and he had using a
harness to rapell down to paint an image of a man urinating through
the dam's leak. Given the size of his "artwork" the whole community
saw his efforts and were outraged. It was NOT his first offence!)

Some books, e.g. some Ace Doubles and mid-tier DAW paperbacks
from the 1970s, were seemingly designed to be read "too fast".

Wow. This shows that I have retained absolutely nothing from
the Pliocene Exile books.

There was a recent incident that sort of reversed that. A water tower
with a painting of Johnny Cash had a well-placed bullet hole added to
provide that effect.

It was actually a very good thing I completed that series (not
counting the later books like Jack the Bodiless which came later)
since shortly after that I met the young lady I eventually
married.....

Life sometimes imitates art.... not that there was all that much truly
artistic about Aiken Drum.

Still I liked the character enough that I used his name as my 'handle'
for 5 years before I found out that a child molester in England was
using it as his handle to lure kids.

Guess who changed their log on in near record time?!?

Shades of the Clifford Olson in BC who had to change his name because
people were convinced he was the notorious serial killer of the same
name.

The wheels of justice grind slowly. Were I of that mind, I would study every site where diplodocids and brachiosaurus skeletons were discovered with the intent to go there and deface each into a "penisaurus."

Yup - no question if a serial killer had the same name as me I would
probably want to change my name as well though Olson is a common
enough surname that changing one's first name would probably be
enough.

No question the Clifford Olson case was a VERY high profile case in
western Canada in the early 1980s. (About 30 miles from where I grew
up and now ive though I was living in Ontario at the time)

And still hot enough that any politician who signed an order to
release him other than in a coffin could kiss his political a**
goodbye. We're talking Manson class here folks.
