I have seen many situations in which people get a wrong idea about people closest to them. In these situations, it often takes a third-party perspective to correct their perceptions.

I know a very good woman who had the wrong idea about her daughter. So I put a good word in to her for her daughter. If this can happen to people as good as that woman, it can happen to anyone.

Sometimes people in close proximity to each other find themselves in conflict. They take each other for granted and over-react to their disagreements while failing to appreciate the good in each other. In some cases it takes distance to get them to appreciate one another. This doesn’t only happen to bad people. It happens to all sorts of people, including many people who come from the right place.

I am taking a class in relationship counselling, and I expect to see those kinds of situations. I would put in the good word to these people for their partners. There must have been a reason why they are with their partners; and the more I remind them of such things the more I expect their relationships to improve.

I was once friends with a man who told him that his claim to right is his penis, and that if he was with a woman he would treat her badly. I told him that if a woman is with him it is because she loves him, and that it is wrong to reward someone for loving you by treating her badly. I do not know if he has taken my words to heart, but at least I have done my part.

Conflict in relationships is inevitable. What is not inevitable is the parties treating each other like dirt. In many cases things need to be put into perspective for the people in the relationship. They need to recognize how good their partner is and how good they have it compared to many other people. And if it takes a third-party perspective, then that is a perspective that I am willing to provide.
