Best Science Fiction Stories of the Year (Best Science Fiction Stories of the Year, volume 1) by Lester del Rey

https://jamesdavisnicoll.com/review/the-thousand-dreams

A selection of the science fiction stories Lester del Rey liked best way back
in 1971. Interesting mainly for a tidbit near the end:

"Publishers Weekly , in its annual report, listed 195 new s-f books and 109
reprints for 1971, for a total of 304 books labelled and marketed as science
fiction."

I have a copy of Dikty's _Best Science Fiction Stories and Novels: 1956_.

It includes, as an appendix, a list of "[...] the fiction titles
published in the field of imaginative literature, in the English
language [in 1955]." It includes US, UK, and Canada. No mention of
anything from Australia.

Not just a tally, but a list, including publisher and price. On just
over 14 pages.

About 25, so about 350 total. Actually, the last two pages aren't SF,
but closely connected titles. Actual SF titles thus about 300, same
as yours.

Unfortunately the 1949 volume does not seem to have such a list.
