There is a scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where a UFO
lecturer describes the "five tones" that people keep hearing...
with hand gestures.

There were standard hand gestures to represent notes? I had
never heard of them.

Well, I just found out now that John Curwen was the inventor of this
system. I learned that, because it turned out this was one of the things
from him that was used by Zoltan Kodaly... who, according to an advert
I saw on YouTube, and watched... expecting not to hear the secret
revealed until one laid down money... was the person who discovered
how people actually could learn that which made the difference between
those who 'got' music and those who didn't.
