Based on the printings that the ISFDB is aware of -- see
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/publisher_authors.cgi?43+count --
the most popular DAW authors have been:

296 printings. Mercedes Lackey. 1987-2022
287 printings. Marion Zimmer Bradley. 1972-2017
284 printings. C. J. Cherryh. 1976-2021
188 printings. Martin H. Greenberg (editor). 1979-2012
134 printings. Tanya Huff. 1988-2019
124 printings. Tad Williams. 1985-2022
105 printings. Tanith Lee. 1975-1989, then 2015-2022
102 printings. John Norman. 1974-1988
99 printings. Jennifer Roberson. 1984-2022 with some gaps
84 printings. Julie E. Czerneda. 1997-2022
82 printings. Andre Norton. 1972-2005
79 printings. Michael Moorcock. 1976-1987
70 printings. Jo Clayton. 1977-1996
70 printings. Seanan McGuire. 2009-2022
66 printings. C. S. Friedman. 1987-2021
62 printings. Mickey Zucker Reichert. 1987-2019
61 printings. Melanie Rawn. 1988-2012
53 printings. Arthur W. Saha (editor). 1972-1990
50 printings. Alan Burt Akers (Kenneth Bulmer). 1972-1985
50 printings. Lin Carter. 1972-1988
49 printings. W. Michael Gear. 1988-2022
48 printings. Kate Elliott. 1992-2018
48 printings. Irene Radford. 1994-2017
45 printing. Michelle West. 1995-2020

It's not surprising that a 2022 press release wouldn't mention John
Norman since DAW hasn't published his books since 1988.

P. S. Of course, the number of printings is not an exact measure
of an author's popularity, but it's the best approximation that our
tools can produce on demand.

Lackey has been doing two or three a year for DAW for most of her pro
career. Popular enough that they have started doing omnibuses of her
earlier work (previously available only in MMPB and in book-club
editions). She's done work, even long-running series, for other
publishers, but I don't think anything as popular as Valdemar, which
is exclusive to DAW.

Every year DAW does an anthology of Lackey's friends' writing in the
Valdemar universe (plus one original story by Lackey and/or Larry
Dixon); for the first time, last year's was published in trade PB
rather than mass-market. But this year's summer novel release has
been delayed into the autumn, which makes me wonder if the annual
anthology will get bumped as well. (Amazon is still showing a
December release date.)

Norman got punted from DAW in the late 1980s. This
was a few years after Betsy Wollheim took over from
her father and reshaped DAW into a more viable company.

(since nobody bothered to snap up the Gor books, not
even Baen, I'd guess they didn't sell well enough to
bother with)

Someone published 11 Gor titles this century.

I suspect Amazon self publishing. They will publish almost anything.

_Witness of Gor_ was published by New World Publishers, apparently
a self-publishing venture. Subsequent volumes starting with _Prize of
Gor_ (2008) were published by E-Reads and then by Open Road
Integrated Media. In the UK they were published by Gateway / Orion.
And that's not counting reprints of older Gor books -- the ISFDB
database is aware of 253 post-1999 printings of John Norman's
books, 26 of them translations.

Norman stated at some point that he was revising the early books
to make them Gor-ier, so (assuming he followed through) they are
not straight reprints.

He did follow through, but the extent of the changes varied from book
to book. The first 6 books were barely affected while volumes 7, 10,
11, 16, 19, 21, and 23 had over 20K words added -- see
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/note.cgi?Author+352 for details.
