I might also be disturbed that the action appears to be set on Jupiter,
but nobody is experiencing gravity over twice that of Earth's. Saturn
would be a much better choice, obSFref: _The Clouds of Saturn_ by
Michael McCollum. BTW, an upcoming book from Baen is mostly set in a
mega city floating in the clouds of Saturn. A mega city big enough that
an internal rail system would not be out of place.

Worse than that. The gravity is at one point described as
"gravity a little heavier than what his muscles had evolved for".

Either Neptune or Saturn fit that but Jupiter does not.
