It's hardly "a blatant bid to reserve some material for future essays" to only
examine the usual complement of five stories for reasons of space.

Nor is it that to exclude the most obvious examples of the genre - the first
or most well-known stories to use the device - such as Armageddon: 2419 A.D.
or Rip van Winkle. Much has been already written about them. And avoiding
overused examples is your general practice.
