I see from the Wikipedia article that we have Trinidad and Tobago to thank for the steel drum as a musical instrument.

I was in a local shopping mall, waiting to accompany a friend home from a late shift, when I heard a catchy tune on the ambient music. I didn't know its name. Fortunately, I had installed a program by Apple on my phone, called "Shazam".

It didn't give me the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the
stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed
of Mercury... but it did tell me that what I was hearing was the Lumix remix
of "Perfect", by Lucas and Steve.

When I got home, I looked it up, and I also listened to a non-remixed version
of that, and I noticed a reference in the comments to Feel this Moment, by
Christina Aguilera and Pitbull.

This inspired me to wonder if there was a common source, and the
tune was a sample in both songs.

And then I learned of "Take on Me" by a-ha.

Ah, ha! indeed.

Anyways, after listening to _that_, I thought that the tune sounded as
though it would be well adapted to the steel drum of the Carribean.

YouTube has got a few versions of "Take on Me" covered on steel
drum, this being indeed a sound instinct on my part. Here are a
