Catching up with stuff I wanted to post again. Here's my review of The Last Man On Earth, the first adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. The big mystery is why Matheson didn't speak of it better, at least after the 2007 movie. One more thing I didn't cover in the review, there's a movie called The Last Woman On Earth that came out first, proving that this was a case of a title coming from a "trope" rather than vice versa. It is pretty clear there were a lot of "last man alive" stories through the 1950s, but after that, it seems like it became more of a TV/ movie thing, possibly because science was better understanding population genetics and how quickly human infrastructure would deteriorate without upkeep. As an actual question, does anyone recall noticing "straight" treatments of the theme after about the mid-60s?
