xkcd: Cursed mRNA Cocktail
https://xkcd.com/2673/

Ewww ! Seeing as our stomachs live at an acidity level of approximately
1.8 (right above semi pure sulfuric acid), our stomach should be able to
handle this. Digest it now, that would imply that the mixture is
nourishing.

Although, the mixture will probably do as much for you as one of the
mRNA shots. In other words, nothing.

The UK and others have seen almost unprecedented study of the effects of mRNA (and other Covid) vaccines, as measured both by reductions in disease severity in the population and test tube studies of antibody reactions. They show that the mRNA vaccines are saving lives - the public reaction here even among the elderly, that they don't need to worry about Covid now that they are getting vaccinated, is pretty much correct. The UK government is about to spend a lot of public money and effort on another campaign of vaccination (and we now have the closest the UK has had since Thatcher to a PM dedicated to rolling back the state). A web search finds a recent report at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccines-for-autumn-2022-jcvi-advice-15-august-2022/jcvi-statement-on-the-covid-19-booster-vaccination-programme-for-autumn-2022-update-15-august-2022

That's a severe overstatement
The vaccines massively reduce the fatality rate during the acute infection stage but the long covid rate is still significant and there is a much increased 12 month fatality rate in people who survive a Covid infection compared to people who haven''t had one.

What's not suprising ta all is that some people are stupid enough to
not realize that *drinking* a vaccine is not the same as being
injected with it - even when it is noted in the comic.

But, of course, *you* would drink such a vile concoction, right?
Right?

Freshly made stuff is OK, but I loathe the bottled and jarred stuff, which
is all we ever had in my house w hen I was young, Tolerable in tuna
or chicken salad, but I much preferred a chicken sandwich with some
brown mustard.

Is there a sour cream version?

Sorry, but I have a very hard time imagining that you can taste the
difference between freshly made and bottle/jarred mayonnaise.

It's worse than you can imagine.

That you can tell the difference between Miracle Whip and mayonnaise is
no surprise at all. It also wouldn't be a surprise for you to be able
to distinguish brands of mayonnaise, or between some particular person's
homemade vs. other mayonaise. "Homemade" vs. "bottled" is hard to
believe, however.

I also grew up on Miracle Whip, and loved it until comparitively
recently. At this point in my life, though, it tastes much too sweet to
me.

I'm not a fan of mayo so I've never done comparisons, but fresh mayonnaise
uses raw eggs while commercial uses pasterized ones, right? That
certainly seems like it might be tastable.

Mayonaise has many components, some of which are perishable. It seem
not only plausible, but likely, that the taste would change over even
short amounts of time, and "bottled vs fresh" implies the bottled is
not, in fact, fresh.

While you can certainly add other flavorings, the basic sauce is made
from just egg yolks, oil, and either vinegar or lemon juice.

I've never had it, though I may try making it sometime.

Hellemann's, which I'm used to contains: "Rapeseed oil (78%), free range
pasteurised EGG and EGG yolk (8,9%), water, spirit vinegar, sugar, salt,
lemon juice concentrate, flavouring, antioxidant (calcium disodium EDTA),
paprika extract."

I don't know what the 'flavouring' is.

Here's Gordon Ramsey making it. He includes salt, pepper, and mustard.

All of which can, and does, change in flavor over even fairly short
periods of time (especially the egg yolks). Especially if it's been
put in a refrigerator without being in a hermetically sealed
container.
