The only Brunner that I liked was _Polymath_, which isn't "dystopian new wave".

"The Whole Man", "The Long Result" and "The Squares of the City" were well received works from the 1960s which are neither dystopian or new wave.

"Timescoop" is an amusing time-travel comedy.

Nice list! Brunner is one of my favorite authors. I have 7 of his
books on my Favorites Bookcase: 3 of his dystopias (I didn't care for
_The Sheep Look Up_) and the 3 books above, plus _The Traveler in Black_.

James: you mentioned _The Best of John Brunner_. I just checked on
Abe Books and if you act now you can get a copy of it for $5, along
with all the other copies for $60 to $70. (I was curious to see how much my
copy was worth.)

I'd like to nominate _The Stone that Never Came Down_ for the
Hugo award for "Most DAW-like Cover". It's archetypal!

If you're going for that archetype (and I certainly would),
I'd say: _The Lion Game_.

That's not quite how I pictured Telzey!

That aside, I think that the sprawling nature of Stone has a
more ethereal(?) look that is closer to the Platonic ideal
of a DAW cover, though.

If something I read last century was correct, that wasn't Telzey at all
(supposedly the cover was made for an unpublished collection that would
have included "Lion Loose" - BTW, Trigger Argee was "wearing" something
like that in _Legacy_, aka _A Tale of Two Clocks_).
