Oh, it’s worse than mere spamtrolling. That book is thoroughly obsolete.
The 5th edition is decades old, and refers to a CompTIA cert test which has
changed radically. The 8th edition is due out shortly. Anyone using the 5th
edition to try to get the cert is in for a shock. In particular, VLANs have
come a long way since the 5th came out, and it wasn’t that good with VLANs
in the first place. (If you don’t know what a VLAN is, be thankful. If you
do, try to think what would happen if you took a 2004 approach to them...)

in the chapters in the main book, so it’s not even the actual text...

Reminds me of a "helpful summary" of JRRT's /Lord of the Rings/ which
members of a different newsgroup used to refer students seeking help
on their homework to. It was, of course, completely wrong.

The high point came when some news site/newspaper found it and
published it as if it were correct.

This is to be distinguished by the eDoc version of /LOTR/, a
collaborative effort of that group that went increasingly off the
rails as it went along. It even did the Appendices!

That would be it.

There are (or at least were) probably High School English teachers who
learned to recognize when their student's book report was based on
this helpful summary rather than actually reading the book.
