Now that NASA has announced the launch date of Artemis 1 to be
Nov. 14, I can't help but notice that it falls on the birthday
of King Charles III. Given that in monarchies the royal birthday is
a big deal, could this be a gesture toward the fabled "special
relationship?"

Anybody going out of their way to arrange something for the Monarch's actual birthday has not done their homework - see https://www.royal.uk/queens-birthday - I would expect the King to carry on the tradition of having an official birthday in the summer when there is at least some hope of outdoor celebrations in the UK being practical. (I remember an American being told of the official vs real birthday of the Queen finding it amusing - "if you're the Queen, you get two birthdays!")

Given that it's been scrubbed a number of times before, if this "special relationship" will get more attention to their work, good.
I don't suppose putting it on Guy Fawkes Day would be a good idea, any way the launch attempt goes.

Since we know there is no such thing as coincidence, this probably
indicates that the DoI was a typographical error and that legally
the US is an overseas portion of Pimlico.

An inspiration less insane that Meluch's Merrimack Series (in which the Roman Empire never fell, just went underground). I wonder if anybody has set a story in such a world? The briefing session for newly elected Presidents must be interesting, especially if they come in wanting know what is really stored in Area 51 and who shot Kennedy. "Never mind all that - what you really need to know is who your boss is".

So does Paddington Bear, I was reminded recently.

The title of Arthur C. Clarke's 1955 story where
a "Prince of Wales" and heir to the UK - one Henry -
stows away on a British spaceship is...

....problematic.. <https://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?56740>

And no, they don't do "The Cold Equations" on him.
Well, I don't think so. But I think it isn't in my collection.

At time of publication, King Charles was six or seven years old.
It probably wasn't meant to be him.

It is in my collection. A conspiracy ofloaded just enough unimportant
cargo to match the Prince's mass (it was possible that those cargo items
had been added to the manifest just for that purpose).
