the chance to play those parts too?

Sorry, I didn't explain that very clearly.

If trans characters are played by cis actors, some viewers may
get the the wrong impression that trans people aren't really
trans but only pretending and acting and playing at being trans.
(Just a man dressed up as a woman, or vice versa.)

You can help avoid this by casting trans actors in trans roles.

OTOH this doesn't mean that trans actors should only ever play
trans roles. Even though Yasmin Finney is trans, it shouldn't
automatically mean that Rose Temple-Noble is.

I'm neither allowing nor un-allowing anything. Just describing
how things are.

Like I explained to Daniel, when trans characters are played by
cis actors, some viewers may get the the wrong impression
that trans people aren't really trans but only pretending and
acting and playing at being trans.

Hopefully, as society gets more used to trans people, this will
become less of a problem.

(Ultimately, I'd love for us to reach the point where anyone of
any race or gender can play any character of any race or
gender. These things just plain shouldn't matter. But we've
got a long way to go before that.)

True. And in the long term, if it no longer matters who plays what role, it
will be OK for non trans people to play trans roles again. But for now, the
representation really counts.

Rose /character/ is trans, and that is one reason that Yasmin was cast
here. If that turns out not to be the case, I’m still fine with the
casting.

The main thing was the statement that Donna had had a daughter. She has -
but she may well not have known it at the time.

against trans people and I think it's great Doctor Who will feature a

She almost certainly is. RTD is known to be very strong on trans
rights, so if he employs a trans actress then it's highly likely she
is playing a trans character.

What does it matter though? As long as the scripts are good and the
story is entertaining everything else is a red herring.

RTD might not... at the moment we know very little about Rose
Temple-Noble. All anyone can offer at this stage is an opinion. You
can offer your own opinion and [if it's a sensible opinion and not

This was addressed in The End of Time Part One script. As the Doctor
pointed out to Wilf, Noble-Temple sounds like a tourist spot. So it makes
sense she would switch it around.

You must not have much experience with women if you are unaware that there
are biological women who have very small and even flat breasts. The
character is only supposed to be about 15 and probably won't be wearing any
revealing costumes. Based on video clips I've seen this actor appears to be
passable (or 'transfemme', as they called it in the casting call). Most
people would not have guessed right away she was male
