From SRW in the Fort Bend Journal:

“Big Numbers”

“To help folks grasp the difference between 1 million, 1 billion, and 1
trillion, mathematicians explain 1 million seconds is 12 days, 1 billion
seconds is 32 years, and 1 trillion seconds is 31.7 thousand years.
Looks like I am closing in on 2 billion seconds.”

And I am right there with SRW.

I'm at around 2.3 billion seconds (top of the head approximation).
Dorothy made to around 2.5 billion. To complete the promises I
made to her, I need to make it to around 2.9 billion.

Just a couple of major ones.

I could have noted that some of my relatives made it past 3
billion seconds.

My wife's oldest uncle made it past 3 billion seconds, 99 years of age.
He passed away last year, was a WWII vet. Guarded airfields south of
London in 1943 and then guarded convoys to resupply Patton in Germany.
His first convoy of 300+ trucks never made it, they had a close
encounter with two Panzer tanks in Germany. Quote "we had a bad day".

I would imagine so...

Reminds one of the (possibly apochryphal) debriefing of a German
tank officer. "Our Panzers were worth ten of your Shermans, but
you always seemed to have 11 of them."

All Panzers were not created equal. Germany built some 6,700 advanced
Panzer V Panthers and 1,859 Panzer VI Tigers, but also 8,500 Panzer IVs,
a 1936 design that was updated several times and remained in production
until V E day, but which was really obsolete by 1941. Panthers and Tigers
outmatched Shermans but the Panzer IV was at best even-up. I have read
that in Normandy, following the invasion, about forty percent of the
German tanks engaged by allied forces were Panthers and about
fifty percent were Panzer IVs.

I came across a brief account of one encounter between Shermans
in British service and a mixed group of Panzers in the following
link, about two thirds of the way down the page:

https://www.quora.com/Which-was-best-Panzer-IV-M4-Sherman-ot-T-34-End-of-1941-start-of-42

Quoting from a posting by Paul Adam in the link:

"The Sherman was apparently grossly outclassed by enemy armour.
There’s a combat report from the Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters,
fighting near Rauray in France at the end of June 1944, of how their
75mm Shermans ran into German armour; and the final score was 7–0.

"To the Shermans… with three Tigers, two Panthers and two Pz IV knocked
out by the Shermans without loss to themselves (five of them by one tank
and crew, ‘Akilla’ under SSgt Dring)."
